The Omega Design

The unique Omega shaped coriolis mass flowmeter is not just another formed meter among many, and the form was not taken because no other not patented design was available.
The Rheonik mass flowmeter is the result of intensive research work in the early 80s when mass flowmeter technology came up.
Dipl.-Ing. Karl Küppers worked on many different designs and tested them with regard to stability, reliability and accuracy.

Here you can see a few of them:

  • Spiral Shape - sensitive to vibrations, high delta p, not good for high temperature
  • Longitudinal Shape - too much stress in welds, no high pressure possible
  • U-Omega type no rods/bar - worked fine, still sensitive to external vibrations
  • First shape with rods and mass bar - extremely stable measurement, potential
for special high pressure and high temperature versions.
  • Final Design

Already from the beginning Karl Küppers did want to create a meter design for a wide range of flow and particularly for a wide range of challenging application conditions - for high pressure as well as for high temperatures.
The Omega design with its patented mass bar and torsion rods showed to be most suitable - it offered all the inventor was looking for: reliability, accuracy and widest range of applications.

Only the Omega coriolis mass flowmeter can reliably measure
  • From as little as 0.001 kg/min up to 25000 kg/min
  • From 0 bar (psi) to 868 bar (12590 psi)
  • From - 200 to 400°C (-328 to 752°F)
